ABSTRACT

We studied the characteristics of one peptide isolated from male mice submandibular glands with toxic effect on kidney. In each preparation 5g of glands were homogenized with 16 ml of ethyl alcool (95%) and centrifuged. The supernatant was treated with ammonium sulfate (75%) in order to precipitate the protein. The final purification was processed in "gel Sephadex G-25" column obtaining the peptide of molecular weight of about 2800 daltons containing acidic and basic components. The isoelectric pH of acidic and basic componentes were 3,2 and 8,7 respectivily. The rats used in the biologic assay received 1,5 mg/Kg of the peptide subcuttaneally. Polyuria, albuminuria, tubular ectasy, vacuolization of proximal tubular cells and glomerular increased permeability were observbed
